What is the Halton Newcomer Strategy?
- The Halton Newcomer Strategy is an advocacy team that engages the community to empower newcomers in Halton.
- The Halton Newcomer Strategy (HNS) is a Local Immigration Partnership (LIP) funded by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada. There are more than 70 Local Immigration Partnerships across the country, each working collaboratively to make communities welcoming and inclusive, improving settlement, employment and integration outcomes for newcomers.

Each year, the Halton Newcomer Strategy develops, collaborates and supports various community projects and initiatives that support newcomers within the region of Halton. The success of HNS depends on passionate and engaged people like you!

The Halton Newcomer Strategy (HNS) Steering Committee Responsibilities:
To determine the vision, create the strategic plan, set the priorities and direct the work of all members of the Halton Newcomer Strategy
To promote, advocate, influence and mobilize resources in support of the working groups and ensure the priorities and objectives of the Halton Newcomer Strategy are met
The HNS has five Action Groups: Youth, Civic Engagement, Health & Wellness, Education & Employment and Housing. The goals of these Action Groups are:
To identify, recommend and support activities and initiatives that address systems gaps in an effort to improve awareness, access and effectiveness of programs and services for newcomers in Halton region
To assist organizations that serve newcomers through information sharing, research, data collection and collaborative action
To identify, recommend, support and undertake activities and initiatives that improve equity for newcomers in Halton region
To share and support the notion of an equity and inclusivity lens through promoting equity and inclusion in all the work HNS does
